Marissa Simmons

Originally from Chicago, Marissa Simmons is noted for her “deep, evenly produced mezzo and theatrical magnetism” (South Florida Classical Review) as well as her “rawly sensual, wry, whiskey-toned voice” (San Francisco Classical Voice).

Most recently, Ms. Simmons performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Prior to that, she sang leading roles: Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti) and Pinocchio (Pinocchio) with Virginia Opera.

Simmons earned her Master of Music studying under Catherine Cook at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She received her Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice Performance and Music Theory/Composition from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, studying under Dr. Esther Jane Hardenbergh and Dr. Lansing McLoskey.

Ms. Simmons’ talents include her work as an emerging composer. She conducted the world premiere of her orchestral composition, Moon Chime, in Austria at age 15. As an active performer and composer, Simmons is enthusiastically involved in many new works.
